Staying Motivated with Your Fitness Goals

How many times have you begun a fitness regimen only to quit a couple of days later? If it’s more than one, you’re not alone. Quite a few people begin regimens only to quit when they begin to get bored with it, the results don’t happen fast enough, or they don’t find it enjoyable. For that reason, here’s a quick look at a few tips that might help you remain motivated.

Set Attainable Goals

Start out with easy goals before progressing to longer range ones. Remember that your goals need to be both achievable and realistic. It can be easy to frustrate yourself and give up if they’re too ambitious. It doesn’t matter if your goals are to walk a mile 4 days a week or to hit a fitness class at one of your fave gyms in Tucson AZ (or wherever you might live), every day for a month, be realistic with them. Once you’ve reached your primary goals, set ones that will take a bit longer to reach.

Make It Fun

Find activities or sports that will vary your routine so that it’ll remain interesting to you. If you aren’t enjoying your routines, do something different. Get one of your favorite designer bathing suits and enjoy a nice day at the pool with friends. Join an intramural sports team with co-workers, such as a softball or soccer or even take a dance class. Find your hidden athletic talent and exploit it.

Make It Part of Your Daily Routine

If you’re having a hard time finding time for exercising, don’t accept any excuses from yourself. Learn a few exercises for women or men and schedule them just as you would any other event during your day. Remember that you can also slip in a bit more activity throughout the day. Skip the elevator and opt for the stairs. While you’re watching your kids’ sporting events, walk up and down along the sidelines. Walk during your breaks at work. There are countless ways to add more activity to your schedule.

Reward Yourself

After every workout, take just a couple minutes to relish those good feelings that exercise gives you. This kind of internal reward can make it easier to make long term commitments to exercise. It can also help to have external rewards. Once you’ve reached one of your longer-range goals, get yourself some new tunes to listen to during your routine, or that new pair of gym shoes you’ve been wanting.

Above all else, remember to remain flexible. There will be times when you’re too busy to work out or when you just don’t feel like you’re up to it that day. When this happens, remember that it’s ok to take a couple of days off. If you need a break, take one. Just get back with it as soon as possible.

Now that you’ve been able to regain that enthusiasm, get moving! Get your goals set, make sure you’re having fun, and remember to pat yourself on the back when you’ve reached those goals. Keep in mind that when it comes to physical activity, it’s something that you’ll always have a need for.
